Maui Beach Activities for Kids
Maui may be a honeymooner’s paradise, but this part of Hawaii also caters to children and families enjoying a vacation on the paradise-like shores of the island. Maui’s beautiful setting and golden sands are an attractive destination for extended stay vacations and getaways when celebrating a special occasion, and you can treat the kids to several fun – even educational – activities during the trip.
When you’re not soaking up some sun on the golden sands or enjoying some delicious food at nearby restaurants, head off on a day of adventure by enjoying some of these Maui beach activities just for kids:
Visit the Hawaii Nature Center
The Hawaii Nature Center is located in Makiki Valley and is home to several educational attractions, including the Rainforest Walk and exhibits that tell the story of the wildlife, plants and trees native to the area. The center is designed to educate visitors about the importance of environmental conservation efforts, and offers several weekend hikes, hands-on activities and special programs throughout the year. You’ll find it at 875 Iao Valley Road in Wailuku. Call (888) 244-6500 for more information.
Spend the Day at the Maui Ocean Center
The Maui Ocean Center is one of the top-rated family attractions in Hawaii and is the place to enjoy the Shark Dive experience and see hundreds of marine animals up close. The aquarium also hosts an “after dark” event, one of the most unique events on the island. You can learn about the sea creatures, turtles, sharks, rays and fish native to the area, and visit the Open Ocean Exhibit that has over 2,000 fish. The Maui Ocean Center is located at 192 Ma’alaea Road in Wailuku. Call (808) 270-7000 for more information.
Play at the Maui Golf & Sports Park
The Maui Golf & Sports Park is a family-friendly attraction that offers plenty of fun for an entire day. It’s open seven days a week and features a miniature golf course, bumpter boats, an X-treme trampoline and rock climbing activities. The Maui Golf & Sports Park is located at 80 Maalaea Boat Harbor Road in Wailuku. Call (808) 242-7818 for more information.
Watch the Luau at Royal Lahaina
Treat the kids to a Hawaiian tradition with a Luau performance. The event also includes an all-you-can-eat Hawaiian Luau Buffet and a children’s buffet. You can see fire artists, dancers, musicians and other performers throughout the evening at a prime oceanfront location on Kaanapali Beach.
Ride the Sugar Cane Train
The Sugar Cane Train runs from Kaanapali to Lahaina in Maui and offers a scenic tour of the island. This old train was once used to carry sugar cane from the fields to the harbor, and now offers leisurely rides across seven miles near the resort area. You can enjoy a glimpse of the mountains, ocean and see several popular tourist sites along the way. Call (808) 661-0080 for pricing information and the latest schedule.
