11. Who Determines The Top 5 Tip Makers?

The Top 5 Tip Makers are based entirely on the ratings that BEACH.COM members give to tips.

12. Why Don't You Delete Inactive Members?

Some members sign on and don't come back for a long time. So long as we have the account, there's a hope to contact them and get them involved. Longtime BEACH.COM member and all around good guy, Daarth, is one example of a guy who signed up, went away for a year, and then ended up being one of the best, most active, and most delightful members around! We and many others are very glad we didn’t delete him.

The site is ordered so that active members are always shown before inactive members. In fact in most cases, it's actually quite hard to come across inactive folks, unless you search deep into the birthday or more obscure lists. Furthermore, the last online date is clearly marked so you can decide whether or not you wish to take the time to contact a member who hasn’t been on for a while.

Though some people claim that we don’t delete accounts because higher member numbers look good for advertisers, quite the opposite is true. It’s simply a bigger hassle to determine who to delete and who not to. As for the ‘they keep the old members here for advertising claim' that's simply not true. Here’s why…advertisers couldn’t care less how many members are here. They care about how many unique visitors per month come to the site, (BEACH.COM is visited by about 5 million non-members and members.) In fact advertisers tend to see active membership sites as less appealing. They are often seen as sites where people waste time on the computer. Instead of travelers shopping for a trip, they see members as people who potentially are here to send email, post forums, make friends, chat, post pictures etc. Advertisers never ask for membership numbers and don’t care. Look in the ad section you won't find a mention of the member numbers. We like the members cause we think it's cool to have so many people sign up, and because we always hope they’ll come back and decide to be active. Advertisers are focused on other indicators.

13. Can I Stop Getting Notices For A Forum I Posted In?

Yes and No. If you post in a Forum you will be get notices about new postings. However, you can suspend the notices of all forum replies for a little while if you'd like to not be distracted by them. You can arrange all this in the 'Preferences' link of your BEACH.COM Notices Console. It is important to encourage fellow members to not bother others with frivolous or off-topic postings which everyone will receive. Especially in the travel forums, posting should stick to the topic at hand.
