Why This Matters

Beaches are more than just picturesque vacation destinations; they’re vital ecosystems that support marine life, protect coastal communities, and provide a place of rest and recreation for millions. But with rising pollution and plastic waste, these natural treasures need our help. By coming together to clean up our shores, we can make a tangible impact—protecting wildlife, improving the visitor experience, and ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same pristine coastlines we love today.

How You Can Help

We’re always recruiting Cleanup Captains for coastal cities—passionate individuals who want to make a real impact by leading a local cleanup effort in their communities. Whether you’re part of a non-profit, private organization, church, or simply an individual dedicated to environmental change, we need your help! Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign Up: Fill out our quick volunteer form to become a Beach.com Cleanup Captain.
  2. Recruit Volunteers & Drive Awareness: Reach out to your local community to gather volunteers and make your cleanup a huge success.
  3. Get Your Kit: We’ll coordinate an order of free Beach.com shirts (provided by us) along with trash collection bags for you.
  4. Lead Your Cleanup: Organize the event, ensure everything runs smoothly, and make an impact!
  5. Share & Inspire: Document your cleanup efforts with photos and videos, tagging Beach.com on social media.

World Ocean Day 2025 Beach Cleanups

  • 14 beach cleanups from Florida to New York and Hawaii
  • 1,259 pounds of trash removed

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a cleanup day look like?
We recommend starting at 9 a.m. while it’s still cool and wrapping up by noon, but the timing is up to you. You’ll also choose a meeting spot for your volunteers, which we’ll feature on the event page we create for you.
  • What should I bring?
We suggest bringing gloves, sun protection, and comfortable shoes. We’ll provide reusable trash collection bags and t-shirts for up to 100 volunteers—these will be shipped to you before the event.
  • Is there any setup involved?
No setup is required! We’re keeping the process simple and low-impact. There won’t be tables or tents for these regional cleanups. Just meet your volunteers at the designated starting point and head out onto the beach together.
  • Where does the trash need to go? There are three disposal options:
    • Partner with a beachfront business – The best option is to reach out to a local restaurant or business ahead of time and ask if they’d allow volunteers to drop trash in their dumpster. In return, we can feature their business name or logo on the Beach.com cleanup page. If needed, we can assist with getting the logo.
    • Use public trash cans – If there are enough public trash cans in the area, volunteers can dispose of waste there.
    • Beach.com can arrange a pickup – If neither option works, we can coordinate a trash pickup service in most areas. You would need to be present for the pickup, and we’d also need to confirm Sunday availability.
