The Safest Caribbean Island to Visit in 2025, According to a New Ranking

If you’ve ever wondered why Aruba’s nickname is “One Happy Island,” it’s not just the beautiful beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters. According to the Caribbean Island Safety Index 2025,  a national ranking of safe Caribbean islands, it’s the safest in the region too.

Aruba scored a perfect 10 when it comes to hurricanes, as one of the “ABC” islands outside of the hurricane belt, making it an ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a tropical escape this fall, with the storm season running from June 1 through November 30.

Other factors that led to the island topping the list were its focus on tourism safety and low crime rate. Healthcare was also factored in, with the nation boasting an excellent system that meets Dutch standards. Plus, the island is easy to navigate, with reliable public transport and well-maintained roads. Of course, it also offers the quintessential experience for fun and blissful relaxation under the Caribbean sun.

The Beaches

Aruba is home to some of the widest, cleanest, and most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean, most made up of fine, powdery white sands. Slather on the reef-safe sunscreen and enjoy everything from Arashi Beach on the northwestern side of the island to Baby Beach at the southeastern tip. Mesmerizing Eagle Beach is often named among the most beautiful in the world and it’s located just northwest of Oranjestad, the capital city.

Snorkeling and Diving

With calm, crystal-clear turquoise water framing beaches with chalk-white sands like Eagle Beach, you can look forward to unforgettable swims and excellent snorkeling or diving. Some of the world’s top diving sites are here, including the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean. The 400-foot-long SS Antilla, known as the “Ghost Ship,” was a German cargo ship that sank during the Second World War. As it lies in shallow waters near Malmok Bay, it’s accessible for divers and snorkelers alike, and covered by coral formations and tube sponges, while inhabited by many tropical fish.

A natural saltwater tidepool called the Conchi Natural Pool is a popular remote attraction for swimming along a deserted stretch of coastline, surrounded by volcanic rock. Located inside Arikok National Park, with limestone cliffs and towering cacti, it’s surrounded by rough terrain, so most visit as part of a Jeep Safari excursion.

Top Attractions

Beyond the beaches, Aruba hosts a long list of other attractions, from prehistoric sites with ancient cave pictographs, historic mining ruins, and museums, to outstanding shopping, dining, and nightlife, particularly in Oranjestad. The downtown area is known for its colorful traditional Dutch buildings, and alongside the marina, you’ll find merchants selling local handcrafted arts and souvenirs.

All of that and a “don’t worry, be happy” vibe should put Aruba at the top of your Caribbean travel list!
