Sports tourism is having a moment (it’s one of the buzziest travel trends of the year!), and the 2026 FIFA World Cup is living proof.
In June, millions of soccer fans from around the world will flock to 16 iconic stadiums in North America to experience one of the most culturally iconic sporting events in existence. For many, participation will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. For others, taking part in the football (or soccer as we call it in the U.S.) festivities is part of a longstanding tradition. No matter the reason, one universal truth is clear: World Cup goers will want to make the most of their attendance.
Whether seeing matches in their home city or flying in from abroad, fans will undoubtedly be looking for things to do when they’re not cheering on their favorite teams. So, Beach.com set out to find the beaches that are both the best and closest to all 16 World Cup host stadiums across Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
We accomplished this by analyzing over 1,500 beaches closest in distance to the World Cup stadiums, narrowing them down to the top five options for each host arena. To be included, beaches needed at least 100 reviews, a 4.5+ rating on Google Maps, and a sandy shoreline in some capacity. Lake and reservoir beaches of more than 150 square miles are also featured. We calculated drive time estimates based on the week of each stadium’s first match.
From highly reviewed hot spots to hidden inland gems, here’s a breakdown of the top 80 beach escapes nearest to every 2026 FIFA World Cup stadium.
Table of Contents

The Closest Beaches to Each 2026 World Cup Stadium
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has 16 host cities located in Mexico, Canada, and the United States. And, as you can imagine, such geographic diversity means the beach options near each location vary significantly.
That’s why, when determining the closest beaches to the host city stadiums, we didn’t rely solely on proximity — we wanted to select the best of the best. Here’s a breakdown of the top five selections per arena, based on drive time, distance, reviews, and star rating.
USA
For the 2026 World Cup, the United States is home to 11 of the 16 host stadiums. And, naturally, the beach options are vast compared to Mexico and Canada, given the sheer quantity.
This year’s coastal host city stadiums are in Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle.
The closest, best beaches for these locations vary from tourist top hits such as LA’s Dockweiler Beach and NYC’s Brighton Beach to more low-key finds like Boston’s Savin Hill and Malibu Beach.
Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, and Philadelphia are the four inland host cities, with Kansas City’s GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium being the farthest from a beach of all the U.S. arenas. Every option associated with Kansas City is either a lake or a reservoir beach.
With such variety across the country, the choices are plentiful. Here’s a look at the ultimate stateside selections!

Mexico
Three of the 16 World Cup host stadiums are in Mexico this year: Guadalajara’s Estadio Akron, Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte, and Monterrey’s Estadio BBVA.

Guadalajara is the host city nearest to a beach, though Mexico City and Monterrey have relatively similar drive times. Playa del Holy in Puerto Vallarta is the best, closest beach to Guadalajara’s Estadio Akron, with a 208-minute drive time (185 miles).
Playa El Morro in Acapulco is the nearest option for Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte (256-minute drive, 226 miles), and Laguna Madre y Delta del Río Bravo wins for Monterrey’s Estadio BBVA (234-minute drive time, 205 miles).

So, if you’d rather go off the grid than into the crowds, we’ve got just what you need.
Methodology
We gathered more than 1,500 beaches across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, then, using a combination of the Google Maps Distance Matrix API and Google Business Profile information, we identified the best beaches closest to the 16 host stadiums for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 80 of the closest qualifying beaches made it into the final ranking, five for each of the World Cup host stadiums.

Beach Selection Criteria
To be included in the study, each beach had to meet the following criteria:
- Maintain at least 4.5 stars on Google
- Have at least 100 Google reviews
- Sit on an open coastline or along a lake/reservoir (minimum 150 square miles)
- Possess a sandy shore in some capacity
All 16 stadium locations were analyzed individually using Google Maps’ “nearby” feature combined with the keyword “beach.” From there, we gathered the first 30 beach locations that matched at least one of our qualifying GMB tags and had a minimum 4.5-star rating on Google and over 100 reviews.
Drive Time Calculations
Average drive times from each World Cup host stadium to its closest beaches were calculated using the Google Maps Platform’s Distance Matrix API. We determined average drive times across all days of the week and times of day, to reflect a true average rather than a snapshot of current traffic conditions. This was accomplished by sampling the API 21 times for every beach-stadium connection. Departure times were at 9:00 a.m., 12 p.m. (noon), and 5:00 p.m. every day of the week (Sunday through Saturday) in local time, for a total of 21 samples.
For every route analyzed:
- Only stadium-to-beach drive times were calculated, not vice versa
- The first default Google Maps route was used to measure total mileage
- There were no filters to avoid tolls, highways, ferries, etc.
- Traffic data, beginning with the first World Cup matches at each stadium, was analyzed for every day of the week to provide date-accurate drive-time estimates.
Final Rankings
Once we calculated average drive times and distances, we identified the five best and closest beaches to all 16 World Cup host stadiums across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. 80 total beaches made the ranking. For the top-rated and most-reviewed beaches, we used a normalized weighted formula of a .95 weight for the number of reviews and a .05 weight for star review rating.
*Because traffic conditions, road work, and route recommendations vary in real time, the drive times provided are estimates based on currently available data and subject to change on any given day.
