When it comes to beachside dining, many restaurants are more about the view than the cuisine. But the latest list by the renowned MICHELIN Guide shows that some are truly a feast for all senses.
The globally recognized guide recently released its list of the world’s best restaurants on or near the beach. We’re talking foodie-worthy experiences featuring fresh-caught fish and seafood paired with fresh produce from gardens and farms nearby, reflecting the region and the coast. All are enjoyed with stellar views, fresh salty sea air, and the sounds of the waves.

A Big Sur Treasure
With everything from Italy’s Aeolian Islands and Saint-Tropez in France to spicy Baja flavors in Mexico, managing to land on this 2026 list is quite the feat. Not surprisingly, Sierra Mar on the Big Sur Coast in Central California, one of America’s top restaurants, made the cut. Twisting and turning along the western flank of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the drive to get there is nearly as impressive, with towering redwoods on one side of Highway One and the ocean on the other.
Once there, you might spend your day searching for sand dollars and jade at Sand Dollar Beach, relax on the purple sands at Pfeiffer State Beach, or hike at streamside, through the giant trees before sitting down for an unforgettable meal.

Dining High Atop the Cliffs
Located at Post Ranch Inn, an adults-only oasis popular among honeymooners, when you step into Sierra Mar, a dining space precipitously suspended at cliffside, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking floor-to-ceiling coastal view. Watch the crashing waves as they meet the towering cliffs while a slow-rolling sea fog often drifts through the air. It may be hard to take your eyes away, but the daily-changing four-course prix fixe menu can rival even that stunner out your window.
Sierra Mar’s dishes are inspired by farmers and other producers in the region, as well as the chef’s own garden. Think items like a seasonal soup or farmers’ market salad with artisanal cheeses to start, followed by Monterey abalone or roasted duck leg confit, and finished with a decadent Valrhona chocolate pave. Of course, all can be enjoyed with a wine from the extensive list focused on California producers.
