This Caribbean Island Just Became 2026’s Most Searched Destination

Expedia just released its list of the hottest islands to visit in 2026, a ranking based on trending interest by its users. These islands are all gaining momentum worldwide, with average social media mentions rising 20% and searches by an impressive 55%, offering travelers an alternative to the traditional “hotspot.” 

All offer stunning natural beauty and rich culture, but there was one that stood out above the rest with a 125% increase: Saint Lucia.

Often called the most romantic island in the Caribbean, Saint Lucia is known as the “Helen of the West Indies,” a nickname inspired by Helen of Troy from Greek mythology for legendary beauty. The Pitons, two dramatic emerald mountain peaks that rise straight from the sea, serve as its symbol, while peaceful white, powdery sand beaches abound. 

Saint Lucia is also known for its lush rainforest with waterfalls and geothermal features that include a “drive-in volcano” with boiling mud pools and hot springs. All sorts of activities can be enjoyed beyond the usual snorkeling and diving at places like Sugar Beach and Anse Chastanet too. There are chocolate farms to tour, private guided horseback rides, and catamaran cruises. The more adventurous can climb Gros Piton for a panoramic view of the island’s spectacular coastline.

Located in the North Atlantic about 600 miles from the Portuguese mainland, Porto Santo has seen an 85% increase in searches. Notable for wellness and relaxation, the small island in the Madeira archipelago is home to Praia do Porto Santo. The over 5.5-mile beach is made up of soft golden sands that are rich in minerals, historically used in spas to help treat a variety of ailments. Plus, the calm, turquoise waters are perfectly warm for swimming at 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit between June and mid-October. 

Exotic Praslin, the second-largest in the Seychelles, is noted by Expedia as the best island for nature lovers. Interest based on searches has increased by over 80%, likely in part due to its primarily undeveloped landscapes. Located roughly a thousand miles off the coast of East Africa, visitors will find chalk-white sand beaches like Anse Lazo and Anse Volbert with shallow, clear cobalt water for swimming, and the unique Vallée de Mai nature reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here one can watch for rare birds like the endemic Seychelles black parrot and see the rare giant coco de mer fruit palm, which produces the world’s largest seeds, weighing up to 66 pounds.
