Paleo or Vegan? Eat Clean at these Vegan Caribbean Restaurants

You are probably a healthy eater because it makes you feel good (not to mention look good). So why would you give it all up on vacation — a time when your entire purpose is relaxing and having fun, in other words, feeling good? Sure, you can ease up a bit on restricted foods, but you want to stay on track. Or perhaps you’re a dedicated vegan or vegetarian for moral or religious reasons. Then there’s no way you’re about to give it all up just for that vacation life. There’s no need to give up your eating habits while traveling. You just have to know where to look! Check out these three vegan Caribbean restaurants:

The Good Life, Bridgetown, Barbados

This Rockley Beach gem in Bridgetown, Barbados is all about helping you live a vibrant, healthy life. And with a tagline like “Offering an easy dining vegan cuisine experience, art work, shakes, smoothies, clothing, and herbal products,” what’s not to love? Diners have said they are surprised to find such great tasting vegan food on vacation, especially in a town known for its seafood.

Passion, Baravo, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic, and really most of the Caribbean, is actually a very easy place to find gluten-free meals, since wheat isn’t customarily grown there, and isn’t usually part of traditional dishes. So gluten is easily handled, but you’ll have to read menu ingredients for the other no-no’s of a paleo diet. There are many places to choose from, but we absolutely have to bring up Passion, a restaurant by head chef Martín Berasategui, winner of seven Michelin stars. This is an elegant dining spot with a reputation for gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options.

Aisoor Fire Light, Kingston, Jamaica

In Jamaica, vegan food is called “Ital food,” so you can always ask for it by name anywhere you go. But if you happen to be in Kingston, don’t miss this highly-rated vegan and raw food restaurant that is located right next to the Bob Marley museum. From breakfast to dinner entrees to desserts, this place delivers an exciting and healthy menu. Fun surprises include “spaghetti” that is strips of young coconut, and “scrambled almonds” instead of eggs.
