Some of the best family memories are made at the beach. Building sandcastles, splashing around in the waves, and enjoying ice cream on a hot summer day are just a few of the things that bring smiles to the faces of the kiddos.
If you’re hoping to plan the best beach vacation, the Sunshine State is always a great option. In a state as large as Florida, though, it can feel overwhelming to plan the best beach vacation that will make everyone in the family happy. Finding the perfect resort that caters to the whole family is the first step, and here are a few of our favorites:
Disney’s Vero Beach Resort – Vero Beach

- Why We Love It: This resort on Florida’s Treasure Coast gives visitors an alternative to the theme parks, and lets them experience the Disney vibes in a tranquil, beachside setting.
- Amenities: Beach access, mini-golf course, private lake, laundry service, BBQ grills
- What to Consider: There is construction happening that is expected to last through December 2026. This may result in daytime noise in certain areas.
Having a Disney-themed vacation isn’t limited to just visiting Walt Disney World. Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is located on Florida’s Atlantic coast about two hours away from the theme parks. This beachside resort is tucked away and is situated alongside the shoreline where sea turtles come to nest. The resort was designed to have minimal impact on the turtles, but they offer opportunities to learn about these majestic creatures. If you’re lucky, you may even see hatchlings.
There are a variety of activities as well, including mini-golf and fishing lessons in their private on-site lake. Access to the beach and a swimming pool shaped like Mickey Mouse offer plenty of fun in the water as well. There’s also a pirate-themed play area for the little ones that has water cannons and a small slide. A variety of lodging options can accommodate families of all sizes, including spacious cottages and villas that can hold up to 12 adults. This makes it a great option for extended families that are traveling together as well.
Highlights
- On-site spa with special tween services for guests ages 6-12
- Mickey-shaped pool
- Pirate-themed water slide and play area
- Beach access with water sports rentals
TradeWinds Islands Resort – St. Pete Beach

- Why We Love It: There are two hotels at the resort, but no matter which you choose, you have access to the many family-friendly activities at TradeWinds.
- Amenities: Arcade, s’mores by the campfire, poolside dive-in movies, touch tank
- What to Consider: You can’t use cash once you’re on the property. They accept credit and debit cards, though, and you can charge any expenses to your room.
TradeWinds Resort on St. Pete Beach hugs Florida’s Gulf Coast and has 1,600 feet of shoreline. There are two hotels located on the property: Island Grand and RumFish Beach. Between the two, there are 733 rooms and villas. Visitors are able to choose from a wide array of accommodations that range from rooms with one bed to spacious villas that cater to larger families.
Guests at either hotel are able to take advantage of the vast selection of amenities. There’s a full calendar of family-friendly things to do that includes animal shows, paddleboat rides, cornhole tournaments, and s’mores by the fire. You can also watch movies while you’re floating in the pool. Older kids love it too (they also offer a teen-friendly beach party with live music and glowing beach volleyball). Additional activities such as poolside crafts are available for an additional fee.
Highlights
- One resort, two hotels
- Nine pools with 550 beach loungers
- Kids Camps and Kids Night Out programs available
- Complimentary family photo
- Dog-friendly
Hawks Cay Resort – Duck Key

- Why We Love It: This is already an amazing resort, but in Summer 2026 the resort plans to debut its new Coral Cay Waterpark with water slides (some specifically designed for younger children), a splash pad, and more. When it opens, it will be the biggest waterpark in the Florida Keys and only resort guests will have access to it.
- Amenities: Lagoon-style beach, marina with boat slips, pack-and-play beds upon request, craft classes
- What to Consider: This resort is located in the middle of the Florida Keys and the closest airport is over an hour away in Key West. The Miami International Airport is about two and a half hours away. The resort doesn’t offer airport transportation, but they do work with local transportation companies that they can put you in touch with if you don’t want to make the drive. If you have a boat, you can also go there by water.
Hawks Cay Resort is located in the middle Keys, which positions it perfectly in one of Florida’s best areas for snorkeling and fishing. This resort offers exceptional add-on experiences, with one that will take visitors snorkeling in a shallow reef within the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary where they can see tropical fish and coral. There’s also a variety of fishing charters that are perfect for all ages.
The beach at Hawks Cay Resort is pretty unique, too, and it isn’t like what you’ll find at other Florida beach resorts. There’s actually a lagoon that has an enclosed area that makes it a very family-friendly place to swim. You will technically be swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, but it’s just not your traditional beach. There are also multiple pools and a new waterpark opening in Summer 2026. Multiple room options are available, but for those that need more space, private villas and penthouse suites are available.
Highlights
- Saltwater lagoon
- Five swimming pools
- Ocean and Nature Focused Kids Camp
- Dog-friendly
- 66 boat slips available for vessels up to 92 feet
Omni Amelia Island Resort and Spa – Fernandina Beach

- Why We Love It: This resort sets a good example for children and provides them with a welcome tote with healthy snacks when you check in. It also includes crayons, an activity book, and a postcard they can color. When they turn the postcard in at the front desk, the resort donates a meal to Feeding America.
- Amenities: Arcade, splash pad, two heated pools (including one for families that’s only four feet deep), playgrounds, hiking and biking trails, nature Center, mini-golf
- What to Consider: There are many family-friendly activities available to add on at this resort, but some are only available seasonally, and many require you to book in advance. Make sure you plan ahead and make reservations for your chosen activities.
Omni Amelia Island has a huge footprint along the shoreline of northeast Florida and is like its own city. It offers a little something for everyone in the family—including golfing, spa treatments, shopping, kid-friendly activities, and access to a beautiful Atlantic coast beach. This area is a well-known spot to hunt for shark teeth, and the resort offers an add-on Shark Tooth Discovery Program for kids ages 4 and older. It teaches children about sharks and gives tips for finding them on their own.
Camp Amelia is also available for children ages 5-10 and is a fun way for the youngest members of your family to enjoy the resort. The on-site nature center is also a cool place to see some of Florida’s animals up close and personal. This area of coastline also gets its fair share of nesting sea turtles. This resort has rooms with ocean views, and there are suites available for families that require a little more space.
Highlights
- Kids Camp
- 3.5 miles of beach with chairs and umbrellas available to rent
- On-site golf courses
- Dog-friendly
WaterColor Inn & Resort – Santa Rosa Beach

- Why We Love It: This section of Florida’s 30A has some of the prettiest white sand and emerald water. A stay at this resort gets you access to a designated private beachfront area, making this great for families who are looking for a quiet family beach vacation without the crowds.
- Amenities: Lazy river, water slide, playground, basketball court, complimentary kayak rentals at Western Lake, departure gift
- What to Consider: Seasonal hours may apply for the pool area. While the beach is open year-round, lifeguards are only on the beach from March 1 to October 31.
WaterColor Inn and Resort is located in Florida’s panhandle along the scenic stretch known as 30A. The Gulf coast waters tend to be calmer, and guests at this resort have access to a designated private beach.
