It’s hard to believe that Tulum was a simple fishing village not long ago. Now, it’s a trendy beach town that offers all three of the much sought after C’s: cuisine, culture and coastline.

No doubt you can eat breakfast at your gorgeous beach resort, but no matter how scrumptious the breakfast, you’ll want to explore this foodie heaven. Plus, you need all the fuel you can get for your yoga classes and forays into the dramatic Mayan ruins nearby.

Try these top five breakfast spots—you’ll regret not tasting your way through Tulum if you don’t.

Ziggy’s

Just a few steps from the Beach Tulum Hotel, Ziggy’s Beach Club is the perfect place to spend your day and enjoy beach-side chilling. Large bar swings are ‘a thing’ in Tulum, but the one at Ziggy’s is perhaps the most Instagrammable of the lot.

We’re pretty confident you’ll love this spot so much you may find yourself here through post-dinner cocktails. Food-wise, we’re still drooling over the traditional Mexican eggs— everything from the classic Rancheros to the simple but scrumptious Divorciados.

La Zebra

Another super cute hotel restaurant on the list, we can’t keep this one to ourselves—but we want to. If you want breakfast with a view, visit La Zebra, situated right on the beachfront in the center of Tulum’s hotel zone. Whether you stay here or not, be sure to indulge in their beautifully fluffy pancakes and Mexican benedict eggs. The portion sizes are generous, so bring your appetite.

Oh, and there’s a dedicated ‘nap zone’ if you’re feeling that post-brunch slump.

If you’re staying closer to downtown Tulum (AKA the ‘pueblo’), or even if you’re not, Le Bistro is worth a visit for breakfast. This unassuming little cafe is an unexpected find in Tulum, with its French-Mexican fusion menu and cute little courtyard seating area.

Start your day with a freshly baked baguette, omelette and well-roasted coffee.

La Coqueta

Speaking of unassuming….La Coqueta is another little gem in the Tulum Pueblo area. This roadside restaurant has quirky decor and some seriously scrumptious and reasonably-priced fare. For breakfast, try the huevos rancheros.

Otherwise, try the juicy shrimp tacos—you’ll like them so much, you’ll have to return twice.
