When PR Superstar researchers analyzed the TripAdvisor reviews for 60 of the most popular beaches, they looked at the number of times sunsets were mentioned, described as “amazing,” “breathtaking,” or “beautiful.” After all, one of the highlights of a day at the beach is its grand finale, with brilliant colors filling the sky.
If you’re looking for the very best stretch in the country to enjoy the experience, head to Clearwater Beach, Florida. It ranked No. 1, with nearly 41% of its reviews mentioning sunsets.
Sunsets at Pier 60 and More
As the study noted, Clearwater Beach already has a “strong sunset identity” that comes in part thanks to the Sunsets at Pier 60 event. Taking place every evening from two hours before the sun goes down to two hours after, the free celebration also includes street performers and artisans.
Before Mother Nature’s spectacular show, visitors can enjoy one of the state’s best beaches, with soft white sand and calm, shallow water. It’s the perfect place to simply relax while soaking up the sun or enjoy a wide range of activities, from dolphin-watching excursions and pirate-themed boat tours to SUP, kayaking, and parasailing.
From Florida to Hawaii and California: More Sunset Stunners
Rounding out the top five, two Hawaii beaches ranked second and third. Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore was No. 2 with 35.45% of reviews mentioning sunsets. It boasts a wide stretch of sand and one of the world’s longest spans of rideable surf. At No. 3, Kaanapali Beach on Maui recorded over 21.5% of reviews mentioning sunsets. It’s also renowned for its cliff-diving ceremony at Black Rock on the north end. One of the island’s most famous traditions, a diver lights torches along the cliff before leaping into the Pacific.
St. Pete Beach, on Florida’s Gulf Coast, snagged fourth place with nearly 17% of reviews mentioning sunsets. It’s also renowned for its brilliant turquoise water and family-friendly atmosphere ideal for everything from sandcastle building to swimming. Finally, at No. 5 was Laguna Beach with 14% of reviewers mentioning its sunsets. It’s also home to some of the bluest, most pristine waters in California, as the entire coastline is a state marine reserve and a designated boat- and fishing-free zone.
