Ormond Beach Travel Guide
Welcome to the Ormond Beach travel guide.
Nestled in between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine, Ormond Beach is an excellent place to take a family vacation and enjoy the Central Florida coastline. Not only is the beach beautiful, with soft golden sand and blue waters, Ormond Beach's close proximity to Daytona Beach and local area attractions makes for the prime destination spot.
Many years ago the Timucua Indians called Ormond Beach, as well as most of Florida home. What is now the Tomoka State Park was long ago a village that was developed by the early Timucua Indians. After the Timucua were long gone, the Spanish began arriving in Florida in the 1500s. For hundreds of years the Spanish ruled the Florida area, including Ormond Beach.
In the 1800s, settlers began to come to Ormond Beach and develop plantations along the coastal areas and especially the waterways. During these years and up until the 1900s, plantation life was the dominant feature in Ormond Beach as well as throughout the entire state of Florida. Remnants of early plantations can still be seen today at local State Parks such as the Bulow Plantation Ruins of Flagler County which is just a short drive north of Ormond Beach in Palm Coast.
Today, Ormond Beach is a pristine community offering miles of beautiful coastline along the east coast of Florida. Located right next door to Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach offers plenty of local activities that invite travelers from around the world—year round. The sun is almost always shining and the sand always ready for visitors to stick their toes in, in beautiful Ormond Beach.
Ormond Beach Weather and Best Time to Visit
Ormond Beach is a pleasant place to visit most of the year. If you're planning a beach vacation with lots of fun in the sun, consider a trip to Ormond Beach in the summer when the waters of the Atlantic Ocean are warm and inviting. May thru November is designated hurricane season so you'll want to watch the weather and pay close attention to what the tropics are doing if visiting Ormond Beach during this time of the year.
Winters are mild in Florida and many visitors still tend to flock to the area in search of an escape from the frigid cold that sets in throughout much of the US during this time of year. Ormond Beach is typically mildly cold during the winter with average winter temperatures still hovering in the 60s or low 70s for much of the season. A winter visit still offers lots of sun and plenty to do in Ormond Beach, and most of the pools along the coast are heated so you'll still be able to enjoy some water activities if you wish.
