Know Your Cabos

Confused about all these Cabos? Here’s the breakdown:

Cabo means cape. So you have the city of Cabo San Lucas, or the Cape of Saint Lucas, and San Jose Del Cabo, or Saint Jose of the Cape. The two of them and the area between called the “Golden Corridor” make up Los Cabos or the Capes! Los Cabos is the overall municipality.

So what do people mean when they say “Going to Cabo?” Usually, they mean Cabo San Lucas. When booking, make sure to double check that you have the correct desired city for the airport, hotel and other accommodations, since they are easily confused.

YouTuber Trisha Paytas recently visited both of the capes. She went first with her boyfriend, Jason Nash, to the Resort at the Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas, and then took her mom back to the area of San Jose Del Cabo for her birthday. In her video, you can see she and her mom were both confused when booking their tickets!

Check Out What’s New to Los Cabos

Montage Los Cabos resort just opened in 2018, but it’s already bringing competition to the area. It’s a beachfront property with one of the largest spas in Mexico. Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio vacationed here with her family shortly after it opened.

The Montage has several restaurants and with an impressive team of chefs running them. Marco Ortlam, general manager of Montage Los Cabos said of the team:  “We hand-selected these culinary masterminds to lead our food and beverage team and look forward to bringing their creativity and tasteful dishes evocative of this beautiful destination for guests to experience at the resort.”

One gastronomic specialty guests can choose from is a menu of sustainability-minded meals and cocktails created by nutritionist to the stars, Kelly LeVeque. LeVeque has worked with fellow fans of Los Cabos including Jessica Alba, Chelsea Handler and Molly Sims among others.

The Spa Montage uses a blend of celeb favorite Tata Harper Skincare and local ingredients in their treatments. They have a 120-minute Tata Harper Beyond Beauty Facial that features a Diamond Dust moisturizer to top it off so you glow like a star.

Privacy = Luxury at Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort

Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort is a celeb favorite due to its privacy, personalized service and innovations in luxury. In 1997 it was the first luxury resort to open in Los Cabos and many celebs have stayed loyal to the spot for more than 20 years. Upon opening, this hotel was already something different from what even the most luxury-bored people were used to. It had many new features for the time that have since caught on at other resorts, like private, in-room check-in as opposed to a front desk, luxury suites with private outdoor pools and the detail that there is actually no sign for Las Ventanas. You have to know where it is to visit, only adding to the intimate feel that camera-shy celebs love.

Notoriously private couple (who kept their relationship secret for years) Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx jetted to the resort to celebrate Katie’s birthday weekend. Justin Bieber has enjoyed time here, as well as Los Cabos regular Jennifer Aniston.

If you want to feel really spoiled, try the poolside butler service. Someone will clean your sunglasses, provide sunblock, a selection of novels and magazines and refresh you with an Evian water spritz! They also make sure you have binoculars to spot whales migrating past in the ocean. Plus, the Pet Program makes sure your pup is spoiled from head to paws, with doggie massages and even a portable cabana to keep them cool! Cinema Paraiso is the hotel’s movie screening program which takes place on the beach under twinkling stars with drinks and nibbles provided. If you can’t get enough of the beautiful sky over the Sea of Cortez, try their “Sleeping with the Stars” service which allows you to sleep in a luxurious bedroom set up specially on your terrace under the stars.

Nothing Beats A Good Spa Day at Las Ventanas

The Spa at Las Ventanas is particularly awesome. It feels private, yet open to the gorgeous nature surrounding the area. When Jennifer Lopez told Harper’s Bazaar a tip to getting that JLo-glow, it was this place—her favorite spa. Lopez’ close friend Leah Remini also visited the spot during her honeymoon with husband Angelo Pagan. The list of celebrities and amenities goes on in this place, so we’ll move on to tasty off-resort dining spots.

Flora Farm’s 25 acres in San Jose del Cabo are home to more than just a working organic farm. The verdant property hosts a lovely restaurant and market, luxury residential cottages and a spa with a yoga studio.  They grow organic produce and humanely raised, hormone and antibiotic free livestock. Singer Ciara enjoyed (and Instagrammed!) her visit in 2017 to the sustainable spot.

Go With The Flow at Cabo Wabo Cantina

Cabo Wabo Cantina is the brainchild of Sammy Hagar of Van Halen. You can actually spot him playing at his annual birthday bashes, that bring celebrity friends like Ozzy Osbourne, Toby Keith and band members Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson.

As the story goes, when Hagar looked over the plans for the nightclub, he didn’t realize the measurements were in square meters instead of square feet. So he approved it, and was pleasantly shocked to find he was the owner of a nightclub three times larger than he was expecting. “This is way too big for Cabo San Lucas, but I like it”, he said. Almost 30 years later, the cantina is a huge success and has spawned other locations and its own tequila brand. In Los Cabos, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and things turn out better than expected.

Speaking of tequila…

Have a Night in With Casamigos Tequila

Casamigos Tequila is named for the side-by-side homes built by best friends George Clooney, Rande Gerber and his wife Cindy Crawford at the El Dorado development. The three family friends had been coming to Cabo so often, that when they saw the perfect plot of land for sale, they decided to become homeowners there themselves. Casamigos is not just another celebrity-endorsed liquor brand but a thoughtfully-crafted tequila born of many nights drinking tequila with friends in the compound.

Celebrity friends like Lisa Rinna and husband Harry Hamlin are fans often seen with a bottle on Rinna’s Instagram. The drink is made from agave plants that are at least seven years old which gives the tequila a better flavor quality. Some nights you may want to keep it simple like Clooney with some nice Reposado tequila and limes.
