Pet-Friendly Beach Resorts in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

dog-running-beach-blue-water

Playa Del Carmen has it all. With the world’s second-largest coral reef, nearby ruins, cenotes to explore and a bustling shopping district, it’s no wonder it’s the third-largest city in Quintana Roo. With prices (almost) as stunning as the views, visitors enjoy a world-class vacation at a much lower cost than expected—and who wants their loyal best friend to miss out on that?

It’s easier than you may think to travel with your pet from the US to Mexico. By car, you can bring two pets (cats or dogs) with you into the country, and by plane, one pet per passenger. Make sure of course, when booking, to note that you will be bringing a pet so the hotel is aware and can prepare accordingly. Your veterinarian can provide you with everything needed to prepare your pet for a beach vacation to Mexico: a health certificate and proof of vaccines against rabies and distemper.

Read on for a variety of pet-friendly hotels for every budget, so you can enjoy Playa Del Carmen with your pup at any price point.

Step into the Fairmont Mayakoba Riviera Maya, and you (and your doggie) will be transported into your own personal oasis. This private resort community on 240 acres of tropical forest has the largest beach of any Mayakoba resort. Mayakoba means “village of water” in the Mayan language, and this place is true to its name. Located on a canal system with two other resorts, the area where these three resorts lie is also known as “The Venice of the Caribbean”.

You can choose all-inclusive or European Plan (sometimes abbreviated as EP, this means you pay for food separately from your lodging) at this luxury AAA five-diamond rated location. The amenities go on and on here. Choose from five pools—one with swim up bar—kayaking and catamaran tours, bird-watching boat tours for animal lovers and all-inclusive stays include three complimentary hours per day at the Kids’ Club for ages 4-12. Plus golfers have access to 18 holes at El Camaleón Golf Course just next door.

This resort takes relaxation very seriously and thus, is car-free. Easily access the entire resort by boat, bicycle, golf cart or on foot. If you’re seeking even more relaxation, soak your cares away in the sea mineral soaking pool or have a treatment or massage with a custom blend of essential oils and local herbs at the onsite Willow Stream Spa.

Kin Sol Soleil Maroma Bay

The Kin Sol Soleil Maroma Bay offers nine suites with either one or two bedrooms. Think large, airy suites opening to private terraces with soaking bathtubs big enough for two, and several rooms featuring a small, cool pool the perfect size for a refreshing dip just outside your bedroom. Privacy is key here, lending an air of romance perfect for a couples getaway—interested couples should check out the artisanal hotel’s Romance Packages, which include massages, champagne and a special beach dinner. Enjoy other meals at their intimate restaurant, Pavo Real by the Sea, where you’ll feel like Elizabeth Taylor in a fabulous sanctuary from the paparazzi.

Couples with children even find privacy in the two-bedroom suite options that feature an en-suite bath and separate shower within the master bedroom itself. If you require something larger for a gathering or family, check out their two private jungle villa residences, each with their own pool where larger dogs are welcome. The nine-suite plus two villa design creates a pet-friendly environment, as there is minimal foot traffic to disturb your dog compared to other hotels.
